Dream Body Weight Loss was a brand of diet pills that were common in some weight loss communities, but they are voluntarily recalling many of their products after concerns were raised over some of the ingredients in the pills. Though no customers have reported negative health effects yet, the company is choosing to recall the pills before any issues happen to avoid potential lawsuits.
Weight Loss Supplements Recalled
Though Dream Body Weight Loss supplements produces many different items, only a few specific ones are being recalled. The recalls are for the Dream Body 450mg 30 white capsules, the Dream Body Extreme Gold 800 mg 30 gold capsule, and the Dream Body Advanced 400 mg 30 purple capsules. The products were sold in clear bottles and foil packets, and most of their packaging contains the UPC codes 6903023120128. Customers are being told to no longer take these three products. This recall comes a few years after the Food and Drug Administration advised consumers to stay away from the Dream Body Slimming Capsules.
The Reason for the Recall
The FDA revealed that samples and tests of the pills showed that they contained an undeclared ingredient, sibutramine. This item was in the pill because it suppresses appetite and supposedly causes people who take the pill to eat less. However, the FDA believes that the weight loss benefits of sibutramine are greatly overshadowed by its dangerous effects on health. Though Dream Body Weight Loss was not legally required to recall the pills, they believe that the evidence from the FDA is conclusive enough to recall the pills before anyone gets hurt from taking them.
The Dangers of Sibutramine
Sibutramine was withdrawn from most health items back in 2010 because it raises blood pressure and therefore increases risks for heart failure, stroke, heart arrhythmias, and other heart conditions. This ingredient may also possibly interact with medications and cause more health problems, and little is known about its potential side effects. In addition to being potentially dangerous, the FDA advises consumers not to take it because medical studies on sibutramine have shown that the ingredient has little to no weight loss benefits. It may suppress appetite, but it does not actually result in weight loss since most people with weight issues continue to eat even after not being hungry. Since the Dream Body Weight Loss packaging did not make any mention of the sibutramine in their pills, most customers were unaware of the risks they took by using this product.
What Should Customers Do Now?
The Dream Body 450mg 30 white capsules, the Dream Body Extreme Gold 800 mg 30 gold capsule, and the Dream Body Advanced 400 mg 30 purple capsules were all produced between January 2013 and June of 2016. They were sold to many distributors and online weight loss websites nationwide, so even people who have never shopped at Dream Body Weight Loss before may have bought some of these pills. The retailers are advising that all customers should immediately stop using these weight loss pills and throw away any remaining pills. Anyone who was taking these pills should contact their doctor as soon as possible to be sure that their health has not been negatively affected after taking the sibutramine.
